CSUB Volleyball Returns Home for 4-Straight Matches

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team will enjoy the comforts of the Icardo Center once again this weekend as the Roadrunners have returned to Kern County for a four-match homestand. CSUB will host four Big West matches over an eight-day span beginning with a pair of home matches this weekend.

Weekend Schedule
  • vs. UC Davis, Friday, Oct. 7, 6 p.m. (PT)
  • vs. UC Riverside, Saturday, Oct. 8, 5 p.m. (PT)
Quotes from Head Coach Giovana Melo
  • "The team is excited to be home for the next two weeks."
  • "We have a long stretch of four challenging matches, but it will be good to be playing at home for all four of them.
  • "We are getting better in practices and the team is battling. We have a very resilient team and I am proud of them for continuing to work through this time of adversity."
`Runner Notes
  • The `Runners (3-13, 0-4 Big West) fell in a pair of league matches on the road last week against CSUN and Big West-leading UC Santa Barbara.
  • In CSUB's four Big West matches senior Libero Paige Calvin is leading the `Runners with 3.83 digs per set.
  • CSUB is on a seven-match skid, its longest losing streak since dropping eight-straight in 2016.
Scouting the Aggies
  • UC Davis will come to Bakersfield with an 8-6 record (3-1 Big West).
  • The Aggies bested UC Irvine and UC San Diego last week in a pair of five setters.
  • UC Davis features a well-balanced offense with five different Aggies averaging 1.5 kills or more per set.
  • The `Runners lead the all-time series against the Aggies, 25-10, but UC Davis has won five of seven meetings since CSUB moved to Division I in 2007.
  • Last year, the two teams split a pair of Big West matchups with both teams winning on the road.
Scouting the Highlanders
  • UC Riverside has a 3-10 record (1-3 Big West) on the year.
  • Last weekend, the Highlanders split a pair of league matches, defeating UC San Diego in five sets before being swept by UC Irvine.
  • Much like UC Davis, the Highlanders enjoy a well-rounded offensive assault with seven players average at least 1.1 kills per set.
  • UCR has a 33-31 edge in the all-time series against the `Runners, which dates all the way back to CSUB's inaugural season in 1976.
  • In 2021, CSUB swept a pair of league matches against UCR and the `Runners have now won three-straight against the Highlanders.
