CSUB Heads Out for Heavy Road Stretch

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners have played some of their best volleyball over the past two weeks. CSUB will have to take the momentum gained into a tough stretch of the season that features eight of the team's next ten matches on the road.

Quotes from Head Coach Giovana Melo

When asked about how the team responded to a pair of close losses last week: "We raised the bar and elevated the standard in our gym and they have responded well. I think this weekend will be another dog fight."
"It was great to get the weekend off. We normally don't get that in the middle of a season so it was great to get some rest and get ready for the long road ahead. We are prepared because we did the same in preseason so we know what it feels like. We just have to go to battle."

`Runner Notes

Bakersfield pushed two of The Big West's co-leaders, Cal Poly and Hawai'i, to five sets last week.
Senior outside hitter Hayley McCluskey averaged 3.30 kills per set on .275 hitting over the pair of matches.

Scouting the Anteaters

UC Irvine (11-7, 4-4 Big West) had early success, sweeping seven-straight matches before heading into league play.
The Anteaters also played a pair of five-setters last week, outlasting Cal State Fullerton before falling against Long Beach State.
UCI has two of the Top 10 hitters in The Big West in Joy Umeh and Onye Ofoegbu.
The Anteaters lead the all-time series against the `Runners, 4-2.
Last year, the two teams split a pair of Big West matchups with both teams winning at home.

Scouting the Tritons

UC San Diego (9-11, 2-6 Big West) snapped a five-match losing streak with a 3-0 sweep against Cal State Fullerton last week.
During the Tritons' skid, UCSD was never swept and went to the fifth set in four of five matches.
Outside hitter Ava McInnes is the top hitter in The Big West, averaging 3.79 kills per set.
CSUB and UCSD will be meeting for the 30th time in the all-time series. Bakersfield owns a 15-14 advantage.
In 2021, the `Runners won both matches against the Tritons.
