Roadrunner Men & Women Fourth at Sprint Invitational

Bakersfield - The California State University, Bakersfield Swimming & Diving teams opened the season with a pair of fourth-place finishes at the CSUB Sprint Invitational, Friday afternoon at The John S. Hillman Aquatic Center. The Roadrunner men earned 263.50 points, just three points behind third-place Cal Poly, while the CSUB women posted a score of 192.50 to place fourth out of six competing teams.

"I'm pleased and pleasantly surprised by how fast we swam today in our first meet of the season," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "We had three individual victories and our men's relays were very fast - now we need to build depth on both the men's and women's side, in order to be our best as we prepare for the dual meet season.

Notable Women's Swims...
* Junior standout Mikayla Popham picked up right where she left off, easily outdistancing the field in the 500 Freestyle. Popham won the event by more than six full seconds in a time of 4:57.24, including six splits under 30 seconds. The Sunshine Coast, Australia native, added a fifth-place finish in the 200 IM (2:07.52) and a 10th-place effort in the 50 Backstroke (27.54)
