CSUB Slips in Last 60 Seconds Against UCSD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball could almost taste their first Big West win on Saturday afternoon, but a closely-contested game against UC San Diego would fall in favor of the Tritons, 59-64.

Jayden Eggleston led Bakersfield in scoring rebounding with 16 points and seven boards in the contest. Hennie van Schaik and Vanessa Austin joined Eggleston in double figures scoring 12 and 11 points, respectively. Andie Easley matched the game-high in assists dishing four dimes and chipped in seven points for CSUB.

The Roadrunners led 11-8 in the first quarter with 4:46, and a pair of free throws from Miracle Saxon coming out of the media timeout.  Back-to-back three pointers from UC San Diego brought the game with one, 15-14. CSUB turned up the heat on both ends of the floor in the last two and a half minutes of the period. The `Runners closed on an 8-2 run to lead 23-16 at the end of the first.

UC San Diego opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run to regain the lead, 24-23. The Tritons tied the game at 26 points with 5:43 left in the half. The score went back and forth in the last minute. It was Easley that tied the contest with a three as Bakersfield's shot clock wound down and the clock showed thirty-two seconds. A timely defensive stop on the other end sent the two team equalized at hafltime. Freshman van Schaik and UCSD's Parker Montgomery led all scorers with 8 points.

It was a one-point game most of the third quarter. Jasmin Dixon gave the Roadrunners their first lead of the second half with a triple, 35-34. The game was a one-point difference again, 37-36, with under seven minutes to go in the third period. In the final two minutes, the Tritons got the slight edge ahead 43-42 heading into the final period of the contest.

A four-point play from van Schaik gave the Roadrunners a 48-43 lead with 7:54. At the midpoint of the fourth, Bakersfield led by four points, 52-48. Tritons went on a 5-0 run to lead, 53-52, with under three minutes. Tied at 57 points with 53.1 seconds left against the Tritons. A three-pointer gave UCSD a 60-57 lead. Eggleston tipped a miss in to make it a three-point game, 62-59, with 3.3 seconds. Pair of UCSD free throws game gave way for the final, 64-59, result.
