CSUB Ready to Open Big West Home Slate with UC Irvine, UCSD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball is at home for the first time in the new year with two Big West games this week, opening against UC Irvine on Thursday (1/27). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in the Icardo Center. Following the Roadrunners conference home opener UC San Diego comes to town for a 1 p.m. showdown on Saturday (1/29).

The women (1-10, 0-2 Big West) are on a 10-game losing streak with their lone win coming in the season opener against Bethesda (11/9). Last week, the `Runners dropped a pair of contests at Hawai'i. Due to cancelations, it was the first game action for CSUB since New Year's Day. Just one of the two at UH counted towards league standings. Redshirt junior Jayden Eggleston leads the team with 15.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

UC Irvine (9-8, 4-2 Big West) fell in a first-place battle with Long Beach State, 62-50, last Saturday. Kayla Williams scored a team-high 15 points, while Chloe Webb finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Bakersfield leads in its all-time series with the Anteaters, 12-5. The two teams split the regular season series at the Icardo Center in 2021. The Roadrunners took the opener, 73-65 (2/5), before UCI bounced back with a 63-42 victory (2/6).

UCSD (7-8, 4-2 Big West) played a tightly contested game against Cal State Fullerton last Saturday. The Tritons had three players finish in double figures. Sydney Brown led the team with 18 points and 13 rebounds. UC San Diego will travel to Cal Poly on Thursday prior to making the trip to Bakersfield Saturday.

Against UCSD, CSUB is on a three-game win streak in the all-time series. Last season the `Runners swept the Tritons during the regular season. Bakersfield won the first contest, 62-38 (2/12), then closed the series with a buzzer beater to win, 69-66 (2/13).
