CSUB Begins Extended Road Trip at USD, SDSU

Bakersfield, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men's soccer team opens its first extended road trip of the season with a pair of games in San Diego this weekend, beginning Friday, Sep. 10, against the University of San Diego and continuing Sunday, Sep. 12 at San Diego State University.

Senior Aodhan O'Hara leads the Roadrunners with three goals this season, including game-tying goals against California Baptist and Pacific. His three-goal weekend was enough to earn him Big West Offensive Player of the Week honors earlier this week.

Midfielder Carlos Armendariz is second on the team in scoring, with a pair of goals coming on from the penalty spot.

Bakersfield goalkeeper Scott Pengelly has played all 380 minutes in the CSUB net.

The Roadrunners and Toreros have played just four times in history, with the last meeting coming during the 1995 season, a `Runner win.

San Diego enters the match 0-4-0 and has been outscored 15-2 in losses to UC Santa Barbara, Lipscomb, UC Riverside and California Baptist.

Nicklas Clausen and Jake Schneider have scored for the Toreros, while Marley Mascarenas has been a mainstay in the USD goal, making 14 saves.

San Diego State remains undefeated at 1-0-2 through three games, with a win over CSUN and road draws with LMU and Cal Poly.

The Aztecs have made their hay with defense in the early going, allowing just one goal in three games. Sophomore Jacob Castro has made 12 saves this season, including five in each of his team's two draws.

CSUB defender Bryson Hankins spent the 2020 Spring season at SDSU, before transferring home to Bakersfield.

Following their trip to San Diego, the `Runners will play a single game at Gonzaga on Sept. 17, before opening Big West Conference play on Sept. 29 and Oct. 2 at CSUN and UC Riverside, respectively.
