CSUB Closes Non-Conference With Shutout

POCATELLO, Idaho – Behind a career-high 11 saves from Flavia Burrell and a strike from top goal scorer Jamie Ingrassia, CSU Bakersfield women's soccer closed their non-conference slate with a 1-0 win over Idaho State Sunday afternoon.

"It was not the performance we were looking for," Head Coach Sebastian Vecchio said, "but we played with such grit and determination to finally get our first win. Flavia was great in goal, Jamie scored a great goal, and everyone else played their hearts out."

CSUB did not record a shot in the first period, but a stonewall defense kept the Bengals at bay in the first period.

Idaho State had an opportunity to take a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute on a penalty kick but misfired and Burrell was there to scoop up the shot.

Ingrassia lifted the Roadrunners in the 84th minute with her second goal of the season. She now leads CSUB in goals scored. Burrell made nine saves in the second period for a total of 11 in the match, a game- and career-high.

Bakersfield made the most of their opportunities with just five shots and one corner taken in the contest compared to the Bengals 20 shots and seven corners.

With non-conference now complete, CSUB (1-7-1) shift focus towards conference and the league opener on Thursday, September 23 against UC Davis (5-3) at the Main Soccer Field. It will be the first official Big West Conference matchup for the program.
