Roadrunners Close Non-Conference Slate at Gonzaga

Bakersfield, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield continues its longest road trip of the season in Spokane, while simultaneously concluding the non-conference portion of the schedule on Friday, against Gonzaga. The Roadrunners are searching for their first win of the season, while the Bulldogs enter the weekend with a 4-2 overall record and a 2-2 mark at home.

"Gonzaga are a well coached and organized opponent," said CSUB Head Coach Richie Grant. "They're off to a great start and playing with confidence. This will be a great final match of preparation for our program before we begin the Big West schedule."

Bakersfield and Gonzaga have met on four prior occasions, with the Bulldogs winning three times, including twice in Spokane. CSUB's lone win in the series came in September of 2011 at a neutral site.

The Roadrunners are led by forward Aodhan O'Hara, the conference's offensive player of the week for Sept. 6, and midfielder Carlos Armendariz. O'Hara is tied for the Big West lead in goals scored with three, while Armendariz has a pair and leads the league with 23 shots attempted and 3.83 shots per game.

Bakersfield has consistently created attacking pressure all season but has yet to see that pressure translate to balls in the net. The `Runners lead the conference in shot attempts (90) and corner kicks by a significant margin (43), but average just 0.833 goals per game.

Sixteen players have made at least one start for CSUB. Seven student-athletes have kicked off each contest on the field, including goalkeeper Scott Pengelly who has played all 560 minutes to date.

Gonzaga has won four-straight after opening the season 0-2, including wins over Big West opponents UC Davis and Sacramento State on the road. Last weekend, the Bulldogs knocked off Division I newcomer St. Thomas (Minn.) and snuck past California Baptist, 3-2, in Spokane.

Six different Zag scorers have combined for nine goals in six games, paced by junior forward Demitrius Kigeya who has struck three times and added a pair of assists for eight points. Freshman Logan Dorsey has a pair of goals for GU.

Sophomore Johan Garibay, a California native, has started all six games in the Bulldog goal, posting three clean sheets and a .778 save percentage. Gonzaga has surrendered only a pair of goals over their last 360 minutes played.

Fans can stream Friday's game on WCC.tv, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Following this weekend's contest, the `Runners will have a week off before turning their attention to Big West play, Wednesday, Sept. 29 at CSUN. CSUB then travels to UC Riverside on Oct. 2, before the conference home opener on Oct. 6, versus Cal State Fullerton.
