Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

`Runners Tally 1-0 Loss Against Fresno State

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield had 56 minutes to equalize a 1-0 match on Saturday night at the Main Soccer Field, but the Roadrunners would fall short in their search of an equalizer against Fresno State and earn their second loss of the season.

It was a physical game as CSUB and the Bulldogs were each on the hunt for their first win of 2021 and combined for 25 fouls, four yellow cards in the contest.

Three-straight corners from Dome Rodriguez put pressure on Fresno State ahead of a water break in the 24th minute but the match would remain scoreless.

The scoreless streak was broken in the 34th minute of the contest when a blocked shot ricocheted towards senior Jordan Brown who sent a strike right past CSUB to take a 1-0 lead. Chais Wright was awarded the assist on the goal.

Head coach Sebastian Vecchio explained post-game, "I think we stopped doing the little things. We had a game plan, but we stopped executing after 30 minutes. We got fatigued and they took advantage - they're a veteran team."

CSUB limited the Bulldogs' shots (7) and corners (3) in the second half of the contest but couldn't find an opportunity to equalize and force an overtime period. The Roadrunners are now 0-2-1 on the year after 1-0 loss against the Bulldogs.

"Sometimes when you get on the road its good, no distractions. We get to do a lot of things we don't get to do at home. We're looking forward to our next three games on the road. I think today's performance was something we can build on."

Darian Tatum finished with a pair of shots – a team-best – while Flavia Burrell had a game-high in saves with six.

CSU Bakersfield women's soccer is on the road for their next three matches. The Roadrunners head to Idaho and Washington for a pair of contests against Idaho University (Sept. 3) and Eastern Washington (Sept. 5) before a game at Saint Mary's College in California (Sept. 10).
