CSUB Beach Volleyball Prepared to Host Concordia

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team returns to the Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex at the Student Rec Center this weekend for a pair of home matches. The Roadrunners are set to host a doubleheader against Concordia Irvine on Friday, Apr. 9, in Bakersfield.

"We are very much looking forward to this week," said Cesar Benatti, Head Coach of the `Runners. "Concordia Irvine is one of the best teams in the country in their division. They are used to playing against top Division I schools and they compete hard with all of them. They have been doing a great job growing their program and it will certainly be a good challenge for us."

Benatti also talked about his team's philosophy as the `Runners head into the final four weeks of the season: "We continue toward our overall goal, which is getting better every day. The last two weeks have been super intense and all our athletes' effort is putting us at a better level. Competing at home gives us extra motivation. We are very excited for these two matches; it should be fun!"

Concordia Irvine will come to Bakersfield with a 4-7 record on the season. The Eagles are an NCAA Division II squad with plenty of experience against Division I foes. This year alone, CUI has played eight of its 11 matches against DI squads and has a 1-7 record against them after splitting a pair of matches against CSUN.

The `Runners and Eagles will square off in a doubleheader on Friday with first serve of Match 1 scheduled for 10 a.m. (PT).

As a reminder, CSU Bakersfield has announced that a limited number of select fans will be allowed to attend `Runner home events for the remainder of the spring season. Each CSUB student-athlete will be given two passes for family and friends, while a limited number of CSUB students will be allowed to register for individual tickets on a game-by-game basis. Strict health and safety protocols will be followed by all of those in attendance, including social distancing and mandatory mask wearing.
