Buck-Ziegler Adds Ortega to 2021 Signing Class

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield Head Softball Coach, Crissy Buck-Ziegler, continues to build out her 2021 signing class and the Roadrunners got good news with another official addition on Monday. Alexis Ortega, a senior at El Monte High School in El Monte, Calif., signed her National Letter of Intent to compete for CSUB next season.

"Alexis is a middle infielder who will bring a great presence on the field," Buck-Ziegler said of the newest `Runner signee. "Her versatility as well as her competitive will to win are things that we are looking for in a `Runner. She will bring great depth to our infield as well as competing for a starting spot."

A four-year member of the EMHS varsity softball squad, Ortega will bring a wealth of experience to CSUB next season. The infielder has already played 55 games in her prep career despite the fact that both the 2020 and 2021 season have been abbreviated due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With her senior year underway, Ortega and her Lions are off to a 2-1 start. Ortega is hitting .600 on the year and has not finished a season in her high school career with her batting average below .460. Ortega hits for both average and power, boasting a career hitting clip of .500 while recording nine doubles, seven triples, and nine home runs.

A speed threat on the base paths, Ortega has also tallied 26 stolen bases for EMHS. In her time with the Lions, Ortega and her squads have posted a 38-17-1 (.691) record.

Beyond her prep experience, Ortega has also strengthened her skills through travel ball, most recently competing with the Corona Angels-Kimbo.
