Barnes Adds Former ESPN Four-Star Recruit to Roster

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men's basketball program continues to build out the 2021-22 roster and Head Coach Rod Barnes added another Roadrunner to the squad on Wednesday. Antavion Collum, a highly touted high school recruit who is currently a sophomore at Ole Miss, has committed to come to Bakersfield and play for the `Runners.

"We are really excited about Dude joining our CSUB Family," Barnes said of Collum, who goes by the nickname "Dude". "He is a versatile player who can play multiple positions and who we believe will make an immediate impact in our program."

A native of Memphis, Tenn., Collum was ranked as the No. 4 player in Tennessee and a four-star prospect by ESPN during his prep years. The 6-foot-7 forward helped Bartlett High School post a 31-3 record in his senior season while averaging 14.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game. For his efforts, Collum earned Class AAA All-State honors and was a finalist for the state's Mr. Basketball award.

Barnes went on to describe what he felt makes Collum a great fit for CSUB: "He is a gifted playmaker with a high basketball IQ. His successful prep school career is still fresh in the minds of the people in the Southeast Region. He is a great student and will be a great ambassador on campus and within our community. Dude's work ethic and leadership qualities fit our program and we cannot wait to work with him."

After his standout high school career, Collum travelled 80 miles south from his hometown to Oxford, Miss., where he has spent the last two years at Ole Miss. In a pair of abbreviated seasons, Collum played in 30 games for the Rebels and averaged over 10 minutes a game as a true freshman. Some of his collegiate highlights include leading his team in scoring against Oklahoma State in the NIT Tip-Off Championship game as well as pulling down a career-high seven rebounds in an SEC road game against No. 12 Kentucky.

Collum will come to Bakersfield for the 2021-22 season and will be an instant presence on the court for CSUB. Keep an eye out as Barnes and the `Runners continue to add to the roster for next season with more news to come in the near future.
