`Runners Battle CSUN, High Winds in Moorpark

MOORPARK, Calif. – Battling blustery winds in the Ventura County foothills, the CSU Bakersfield women's golf team pushed through a challenging round in its dual match with CSUN on Wednesday. The host Matadors came out on top of the Roadrunners in their annual dual, 340-369.

"Conditions were so tough today," said Meghan Thomason, Head Coach of the `Runners, after her team played the round in 30-40 mile per hour winds. "The scores don't reflect the level of play. I think most of the team is excited for the rest of the season because they know if they can hit good shots on days like today, then they will be able to light it up in better weather."

Bakersfield's scoring leader on the year, Brandi Borjon, led the `Runners at Rustic Canyon Golf Course on Wednesday. Borjon posted a team-low score of 88 in the difficult conditions. Fellow senior Allie Crawley came back to the clubhouse one stroke behind Borjon with an 89.

Macey Mills posted a 91 for CSUB in its dual against CSUN while fellow senior Vanessa Watkins rounded out Bakersfield's scoring four with a total of 101 strokes. Sophomore Gillian Galicia, making her return to the scoring squad, posted a 104 in Moorpark.

Three `Runners competed as individuals on Wednesday with freshmen Christy Mae Saban and Meredith McDougal both posting scores of 89. Senior Kaleigh Irey tallied 93 strokes at Rustic Canyon.

Coming Up Next

The `Runners have just a few days to prepare for their next competitive action as CSUB is scheduled to take on the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, Apri. 5-6. The two-day tournament will take place in Maricopa, Ariz., where the weather predictions suggest the Arizona desert will be unsurprisingly hot with mild winds.
