Rich Wins Pair on Day Two of NCAA Wrestling Championships

St. Louis, Mo. – CSU Bakersfield sophomore Chance Rich advanced deep into wrestlebacks, at the NCAA Wrestling Championships in St. Louis, winning twice, but falling one victory shy of All-American honors in the 133 lb weight class. Dominic Ducharme and Angelo Martinoni also saw their seasons come to a close on day two of the National Tournament.

In a season where CSUB struggled to even get on the mat in competition, three Roadrunners not only advanced to the NCAA Championships but came away with individual wins.

Rich kicked off day two with a dramatic win over West Virginia's Ryan Sullivan. He carried a 2-1 lead into the third period and appeared in complete control, but a penalty for an illegal hold and a Sullivan escape put him in a one point hole with under a minute remaining.

With one second remaining in the third period, Rich struck at Sullivan's legs, taking him down for a last minute win.

He used a much more systematic approach to dispatch North Carolina State's Jarrett Trombley. After an early Trombley takedown, Rich scored one of his own and followed with four nearfall points to end the first period with a 4-2 lead and take control of the match. He'd go on to post a 5-3 win.

Rich advanced to face Virginia's Louis Hayes in the wrestleback quarterfinals. Late in the first round Hayes took Rich to the mat before turning him onto his back for the pin.

Rich wraps his sophomore season with an overall record of 8-4. He was 6-4 against ranked opponents.

Ducharme and Martinoni each dropped their opening bouts on Saturday.

Ducharme lost in a technical fall to Oklahoma State's #11 Dakota Geer, while Martinoni lost to #5 Dom Demas of Oklahoma, 11-3.

Martinoni finishes his year with a 5-3 record. He placed third at the Pac-12 Championships in the 141 lb weight class.

Ducharme's loss was likely the last of his CSUB career. He ends the season with a 6-2 record, and his career with 57 wins against 39 losses. His 18 career pins rank him 25^th all-time in Roadrunner history.
