Seeding Announced for NCAA Wrestling Championships

Indianapolis, Ind. - Brackets for the 2021 NCAA Wrestling Championships were released Wednesday afternoon, during a 45-minute selection show, hosted on NCAA.com. The announcement includes tournament seeding, first-round match-ups and the bracket paths standing between CSU Bakersfield qualifiers, Chance Rich (133), Angelo Martinoni (141) and Dominic Ducharme, and an NCAA Championship or All-American honors.

At 133 lbs, #19 Chance Rich draws South Dakota State's #14 Zach Price in a first-round match-up. The bout is a rematch of Price's 6-3 win at the 2019 Cliff Keen Invitational, which eliminated Rich from the prestigious in-season tournament. Should Rich advance, he'd face the winner of #3 Korbin Meyers of Virginia Tech and #30 Jordan Hamdan of Michigan State.

Rich enters the tournament with a 5-2 record, and is 3-2 against ranked opponents this season. He's 3-5 in his career against the this year's tournament field, including a win over Arizona State's #9 Michael McGee at last month's Pac-12 Championship.

He's currently ranked 17th by FloWrestling, 20th by WrestleStat and 21st by TrackWrestling.

Martinoni is the #27 seed in the 141 lb bracket, and is scheduled to face Missouri's #6 Allan Hart in round one. The redshirt sophomore rebounded from an opening round loss at the Pac-12 Tournament to post back-to-back wins in dominating fashion and secure his allocation. He's 1-4 against the 2021 field, with his lone win coming over #4 Tariq Wilson of NCAA during his run at last season's Southern Scuffle.

Martinoni is 4-1 this season.

The Pac-12 Champion at 184 lbs, Ducharme earned the #21 seed and a meeting with #12 Nelson Brands. Brands wrestles for the University of Iowa, the same program Ducharme's brother Joe competed for from 2009-14.

Ducharme is a perfect 5-0 this season, and won his only match-up with a ranked-opponent this season; his Pac-12 title winning bout with Oregon State's Ryan Reyes. A win would send him to a second-round date with Virginia Tech's #5 Hunter Bolen or #28 Dylan Ammerman of Lehigh.

Ducharme is ranked 23rd by Open Mat, 25th by FloWrestling and #27 by Track Wrestling.

Bakersfield is sending a wrestler to the NCAA Championship Tournament for the 48th consecutive season.

Forty-five Roadrunners have earned All-American honors, with a top-eight finish at the annual NCAA Meet, while nine have won National Championships. CSUB legend Stephen Neal is the last Bakersfield wrestler to win a National Title. Bryce Hammond is the most recent All-American, placing eighth at 174 lbs in 2014.
