Women's Basketball Splits UC Irvine Series

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball went without a player in double figure scoring for the first time this season on Saturday. Andie Easley led the Roadrunners for the fourth time this year but the Roadrunners lost Game 2 against UC Irvine and split the series, dropping a three-game win streak. UCI won, 63-42.

Easley had nine points and a game-high six assists on the night. Jayden Eggleston was right behind her in scoring as she finished with eight points. Eggleston added six rebounds. Makenzie Bond and freshman Sophie Tougas each chipped in six points.

Miracle Saxon grabbed six rebounds and a team-best three steals.

UC Irvine had three in double figures in Chloe Webb (13), Kayla Williams (12) and Haleigh Talbert (10). The visitors shot 37 free throws compared to the `Runners nine.

First Quarter

Eggleston tied the score before an Anteater run forced a CSUB timeout four minutes into the period down, 12-2. Makenzie Bond came in and scored four points in three minutes to keep the Roadrunners in the game. She had a team-high at the end of the period. UC Irvine led, 16-8.

Second Quarter

Bakersfield upped their defensive pressure in the second period and sprinkled some good offensive possessions to remain in the contest. It seemed like the `Runners might tie the game but a three-point differential turned into ten as the `Eaters closed the half on a run and led at half time, 28-18.

Third Quarter

UC Irvine opened the second half with a 6-0 run that prompted head coach Greg McCall to call a timeout and refocus. The Anteaters continued their hot hand in the third quarter shooting 54.5% from the field as a team. UC Irvine led by seventeen at the end of the third, 49-31.

Fourth Quarter

CSUB found themselves down by as much as twenty-five points but continued to fight on both ends of the floor. The Roadrunners didn't shoot the ball well but held the Anteaters to their lowest shot attempts (7) and quarter points. The last made basket from the 'Eaters came at 6:40 as their final six points came from the free throw line.
