D’Arcy Wins Third MPSF Swimmer of the Week Honor; CSUB Women Return to Dual Meet Action at Rival Fresno State

BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. – The CSU Bakersfield women's swimming and diving team travels north to face Central Valley rival Fresno State on Saturday, Dec. 11 at noon, in the team's first dual meet competition in more than a month. The Roadrunners are 2-0 in dual meets this season, with wins over Pomona-Pitzer and the University of Pacific earlier this fall. Saturday's dual is the team's first on the road this season.

"Fresno is a tough team and this weekend's meet will be a challenge," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "We'll be short-handed with a few injuries, which will affect our depth, so we're going to need our top swimmers to step up, lead our team and score big points."

Autumn D'Arcy and Mikayla Popham will lead the charge in Fresno. The duo competed against many of the best swimmers in the country last weekend at the Toyota US Open Championships in Greensboro, N.C.

Freshman Lorena Jerebic continues to get stronger and should figure in several different events.

Lauren Carson leads a resurgent CSUB dive team expected to contribute.

WHERE & HOW:  The two teams will meet at the Fresno State Aquatics Center on the FSU campus, with races set to begin promptly at noon. Fans and media unable to attend can follow results live on the Meet Mobile App. or stream the event on Mountain West TV through GoBulldogs.com.

DARCY EARNS THIRD MPSF AWARD: Autumn D'Arcy was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Swimmer of the Week for the third time this season following her Silver Medal performance in the 100 Butterfly at the Toyota US Open. D'Arcy clocked a CSUB long-course record with her time of 1:00.24, missing gold by just 0.19 seconds.

The Redlands, Calif., native qualified with a time of 1:00.42 to become the first Roadrunner ever to reach an A-Final at a USA Swimming national event.

She also swam the 100 Back, with a prelim time of 1:06.30.

D'Arcy leads all MPSF swimmers or divers with three weekly awards this season, and currently holds MPSF season-best times in the 50 Fly, 100 Fly, 200 Fly and the 200 IM. She also has the year's second-fastest time in the 100 Back.

D'Arcy now boasts eight career Swimmer of the Week honors, including five during her first two seasons as a member of the Western Athletic Conference.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
  • Autumn D'Arcy has 11 individual wins this season and 57 over two-plus seasons in Bakersfield. She needs just three more victories to match, and four to break, Paola Hernandez' Division I era record for individual wins at CSUB. She has not lost a dual meet swim all season, winning all six of her races in meets with Pomona-Pitzer and Pacific.
  • Sophomore Mikayla Popham is a perfect 7-for-7 in her dual meet races this season and boasts 10 individual wins on the year. She also has a pair of runner-up performances. Popham reached B-Finals in the 100 Freestyle, placing 13th, while also setting a long-course CSUB record and earning a national cut during a 50 Freestyle time-trial at last week's US Open Championships.
  • Popham boasts the fastest time among all MPSF swimmers in the 200 Free this season. She also ranks second in the 50 Free, 100 Free and 500 Free.
  • Lorena Jerebic set personal bests in four separate events her last time out. The freshman from Zagreb, Croatia, set new standards for herself in the 100 Back, 100 Fly, 200 Fly and 200 IM at the Dixie State Invitational.
  • Four Roadrunner women are among the MPSF's Top-16 in the 100 Free this season, led by junior Ariane Skeggs in fourth place. Hannah Marsh ranks ninth, followed by freshmen Melinda Johnson (14th) and Maria Wold (16th).
  • Lauren Carson set personal bests on both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter boards in the dual meet with Pomona-Pitzer.
