Roadrunners Close Out Historic US Open Championship

Greensboro, N.C. – Sophomore Mikayla Popham placed 13th in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 57.40, as CSU Bakersfield closed out an historic trip to the US Open Championships Saturday evening at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Roadrunners reached five evening finals in Greensboro, including Autumn D'Arcy's silver medal swim in the 100 Butterfly on Friday night.

"We've had more finals swims this weekend than we've ever had at this level," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "I'm proud of our athletes, proud of our program and excited to get home to begin training camp next week!"

Popham reached tonight's B-Final after clocking a time of 57.55 in this morning's preliminary session, before just missing a personal best time during the evening swim.

Kris Rogic was also in action today, swimming a 26.80 time-trial in the 50 Backstroke as part of his quest to reach a second World Championship event, next Summer.

NOTABLE:

D'Arcy (100 Fly), Popham (100 Free), Rogic (100 Back), Loren Gillilan (100 Fly) and Ryan Brimer (200 Free) all reached US Open Finals this weekend.
D'Arcy became the first Roadrunner to reach an A-Final at a USA Swimming National Event when she qualified second in the 100 Fly before winning her silver medal.
Popham set a new long-course CSUB record in the 50 Freestyle, when she clocked a 26.52 in a time-trial on Thursday morning. She earned a US National cut with that time.
Brimer's final time of 1:56.23 in the 200 Freestyle was a personal best.
Rogic reached the US Open Finals in the 100 Backstroke for the second time in his career; he placed 18^th in 2019 with a time of 56.23.

NEXT UP:
The CSUB women return to dual meet competition on Dec. 11 at Fresno State, while both teams are in action on Jan. 2 at Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival UC San Diego.
