Rich, Loomer & Urias Place in Reno

RENO, NEVADA – Chance Rich advanced to the championship bout of the 133-pound weight class, ultimately placing second and leading CSU Bakersfield to a seventh-place finish at the Reno Tournament of Champions, Sunday. Albert Urias finished in fifth place at 174 pounds and Josh Loomer was sixth at 197 pounds for the Roadrunners.
 
Rich won four straight bouts, before falling narrowly to Pac-12 rival Devan Turner of Oregon State. It was the first extended run of competition for the redshirt sophomore, who has battled a lower body injury for much of the season. He now sits at 5-1 on the year and entered today's event ranked 15th in the country according to InterMat.
 
Loomer made his season debut in Reno, winning four of six bouts. His run came to an end at the hands of Stanford's Nick Stemmet in the fifth-place match.
 
Urias placed for the third time in four tournament appearances this season, winning a CSUB-best five times at the Tournament of Champions.
 
Angelo Martinoni was 3-1 on the day before withdrawing ahead of the consolation round of eight. He posted two wins by fall and one by major decision. His lone loss came in a rematch with Wyoming's Chase Zollman. Martinoni defeated Zollman earlier this season at the Cliff Keen Invitational.
 
Josh Brown also posted a winning record on the day, with a 4-2 mark.
 
NEXT UP: Bakersfield continues tournament wrestling at the Southern Scuffle on Jan. 1-2 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
