BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - CSU Bakersfield women's basketball struggled defending the 3-point line late in the game on Saturday against Fresno State. The Bulldogs shot 47.1% from behind the arch fueling their win, 77-64.
CSUB had four players finish in double figures led by a career-high 20 points from Tatyanna Clayburne. Lexus Green scored 14 points while Jayden Eggleston nearly had a double-double in the loss with 13 points and nine rebounds. Vanessa Austin chipped in 12 points for the Roadrunners rounding out the double-digit scorers.
Bakersfield opened the first quarter shooting the ball well (8-17, 47.1% FG) and had built a seven-point lead by the end of the period, 18-11.
Fresno State started to hit shots in the second quarter. The Roadrunners largest lead in the period was seven points, 26-19. The Bulldogs used the remaining 6:13 to chip away at the Roadrunners lead. Tied 33 all with seconds to go in the half and FS ball, banked a high floating layup in to give the Bulldogs the edge, 35-33.
Bakersfield came out of the locker room ready to go in the third having withstood the Bulldogs run. The Roadrunners went back and forth with the Dogs before tallying their largest lead of the quarter, 43-41. The remaining 4:42 of the period saw Fresno State heat up from behind the three-point line. The Bulldogs outscored CSUB by 3 points giving the visitors a 5-point lead, 56-51.
Fresno State lit it up in the fourth quarter outscoring the `Runners, 21-13. Bakersfield had dug a 15-point hole with 6:18 but continued to attack on offense in an attempt to cut the deficit as much as possible before time expired. CSUB would close the gap to 13 points falling, 64-77.
The women have 11 days to get better and prepare for their next opponent in UCLA on Dec. 21. The contest is set for a 1 p.m. start on the Pac-12 Plus Network.
