Swimming Welcomes MPSF Foe Pacific

Bakersfield, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield swimming and diving welcomes the University of the Pacific to the Hillman Aquatic Center on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., in the first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation meet of the season for either team. The Roadrunners spent the last seven seasons competing in the Western Athletic Conference, after previously competing in the MPSF from 2011-2013

"This meet marks our return to the MPSF and our first conference dual since leaving the WAC," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "We're excited about the times we've posted in our first three competitions and having our divers back in the mix. We'll look to build on that momentum this weekend."

Bakersfield captured 15 individual and relay titles over three seasons in the MPSF, paced by the men's team which won the conference team championship in 2011.

The `Runner men and women each posted victories over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, Oct. 30 to start the year with 1-0 dual meet records.

Mikayla Popham has led the charge for the CSUB women, winning all six of her individual races to date. Popham is also a critical piece on the Roadrunner relays, helping the women to four relay wins and a runner-up finish this season.

Junior Autumn D'Arcy sits just one win behind her teammate's total, winning five events in three different strokes. D'Arcy has victories this season in the backstroke, the butterfly and the freestyle. She ranks second in the Division I era at CSUB with 51 career races won, just nine behind school record holder Paola Hernandez.

Danielle Albright, Lorena Jerebic, Melinda Johnson, Tabea Mose and Ariane Skeggs also boast individual wins for CSUB through three competitions.

Kris Rogic, Ryan Brimer and Loren Gillilan continue to lead the CSUB men.

Rogic has four wins on the year, including two in the backstroke and one in the individual medley. The Zagreb, Croatia, native added the 500 Freestyle to his repertoire against the Sagehens, winning by nearly ten seconds in a time of 4:35.38.

Brimer has three wins, including a pair in his best event the 200 Freestyle, while Gillilan has won single races in the 100 and 200 butterfly, and the 100 Freestyle.

Senior Antonio Milin has stepped up in 2021, with three wins across three different distances in the breaststroke.

Beyond the usual suspects, Bakersfield will look to newcomers like Tim Engel, Nicholas Dobush and Tyler Ledet on the men's side and Albright, Johnson, Danica Aguilar and Maria Wold on the women's team for depth points.

"Pacific is a great team, and we'll need strong contributions from our freshmen and sophomores to get another win," Hansen said.

Additional points should be available in the diving well.

Dyson Modica took first place on the 1-Meter board and added a runner-up finish in the 3-Meter competition, in the meet with Pomona-Pitzer.

Lauren Carson and Maya Stefanski each grabbed a pair of top-three finishes in the season-opening dual, with Carson taking home the title in the 1-Meter event.

Saturday's home dual is CSUB's last at the Hillman Aquatic Center before an extended road. The Roadrunners will next compete in Bakersfield on Jan. 15, on Senior Day against Fresno Pacific.
