Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

`Runners Drop Road Game at NAU

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – A 17-point, first-half deficit proved to be too much to overcome for the CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team in Thursday night's road game at Northern Arizona. The Roadrunners cut their deficit to single digits late in the game, but the Lumberjacks held on for a 74-64 victory on their home floor.

CSUB and NAU posted similar shooting percentages on the night (42% vs. 49%), but it was a 9-of-22 Lumberjack three-point shooting effort that proved to be the difference as Bakersfield hit just 3-of-9 shots from behind the arc. Traditionally one of the better rebounding teams in the country, the `Runners were outrebounded 39-34 by the Lumberjacks.

Individually, the `Runners were led by guard Shaun Williams, who recorded 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting to go with two assists and three steals. Redshirt senior Justin Edler-Davis scored 14 points on the evening, surpassing the 1,000 career points milestone along the way. The guard/forward became just the 15th `Runner in CSUB history to accomplish the feat and he sits less than 100 points away from entering CSUB's 10 Top Scorers list.

Host NAU jumped out on the `Runners early, 9-2, but Bakersfield weathered the storm and pulled within one point at 9-8. Early foul trouble slowed the CSUB defense down and NAU played an efficient opening period, slowing pulling away from the `Runners. The Lumberjacks gained their biggest lead of the game, 17 points, at 37-20 with just under four minutes left in the half.

A late surge by the `Runners, catalyzed by intense defensive effort, helped CSUB pull within nine points, 73-64, with six seconds remaining in the second half. NAU hit a free throw after the inbound and closed out the 10-point victory.

With the loss, CSUB (1-2) will return to Bakersfield to prepare for its next game, a home contest on Monday, Nov. 22. The `Runners will welcome Colorado College, coached by former CSUB Associate Head Coach Jeff Conarroe, for the game in the Icardo Center with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. (PT). Tickets are on sale ahead of time at GoRunners.com/Tickets as well as at the door.
