Bakersfield Sweeps Pomona-Pitzer in Dual Opener

Bakersfield, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept a dual meet with visiting Pomona-Pitzer, Saturday at the John S. Hillman Aquatic Center. The Roadrunner men bested the Sagehens 210-73, while the women won by a 186.5-113.5 margin, as both teams started the dual meet season 1-0.

"Both teams were focused today and performed well against a quality opponent," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "We received great performances from our usual suspects, but we had strong swims across the board today and showed signs of the depth we'll need to reach our potential this season."

The `Runner men sandwiched wins in the 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Freestyle Relay around eleven individual victories.

Senior Loren Gillilan paced Bakersfield with three individual victories, taking home the top time in the 100 and 200 Butterfly events and the 100 Freestyle. Classmates Kris Rogic, Ryan Brimer and Antonio Milin each one twice.

Rogic posted wins in the 100 Backstroke and the 500 Freestyle, while also swimming lead-off legs on each CSUB relay. His winning swim in the freestyle event was a new personal best by more than two seconds.

Brimer grabbed victories in both the 200 and 50 Freestyles and finished just one quarter of a second behind teammate Gillilan in the 100 Freestyle.

Milin swept the Breaststroke events, winning both the 100 and 200 disciplines by at least one full second.

Kadin Denner and Julio Alcantar also captured individual victories for CSUB, winning the 1000 Freestyle and the 200 Backstroke, respectively. Denner added a runner up finish in the 500 Freestyle and Alcantar was second in the 100 Backstroke.

Zach Serrano and Nick Dobusch each posted a pair of top-three finishes on the day. Serrano was second in the 200 Butterfly, with Dobush just behind in third place, and added a runner up time in the 400 IM. Dobusch was second in the 100 Butterfly.

Freshman Tim Engel was second in the 50 Freestyle and fourth in the 100 Butterfly, while also swimming a leg on each CSUB relay.

Mikayla Popham won three more individual races to lead the CSUB women, capturing the top time in the 50, 200 and 500 Freestyles. She added an anchor swim on the team's 200 Medley Relay that finished second.

She was matched by Autumn D'Arcy, who showed her versatility winning the 100 Backstroke, the 100 Freestyle and the 100 Butterfly. She matched teammate Tabea Mose's school record in the 100 Backstroke, with her time of 55.77.

D'Arcy now has 49 individual wins in her three-year career, moving into second place all time for CSUB women's swimmers at the Division I level.

Danielle Albright won both the 100 and 200 Breaststroke events. The freshman from Tulare, Calif., added a third-place finish in the 400 IM to close out a strong individual meet.

Ariane Skeggs (1000 Freestyle), Lorena Jerebic (200 Butterfly) and Melinda Johnson also posted wins for the `Runners.

Skeggs won the 1000 Freestyle by more than 10 seconds, setting a new personal best of 10:27.10 in the process. Perhaps more impressively, she swam to a second-place finish in the 200 Freestyle less than ten minutes later. Skeggs was also second in the 500 Freestyle to earn a third podium finish.

Jerebic also posted a fourth-place finish in the 100 Freestyle and a second-place time in the 100 Butterfly. Her winning time in the 200 Butterfly was the fifth fastest personal best time in school history.

Mose was second in the 100 Backstroke, and was a part of each runner-up relay team. She also finished third in the 200 Backstroke.

CSUB received great depth swims from Hannah Marsh, Maria Wold and Danica Aguilar, who combined for six top-three finishes on the day.

The Bakersfield divers made their long-awaited season debut, with Roadrunners winning two of the four competitions.

On the men's side freshman Dyson Modica captured his first career victory on the 1-Meter board with a score of 280.10. He added a second-place finish in the 3-Meter competition with 260.30 points.

Lauren Carson won the 1-Meter competition for CSUB, scoring 253.50 points, and added a third-place effort on the 3-Meter board (222.40). Both scores were personal bests.
