Double OT Victory Gives CSUB First Big West Win

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team played the role of spoiler on Thursday night at UCR Soccer Stadium with a 3-2 double overtime victory over UC Riverside for the program's first Big West Conference win.

Litzy Pimentel opened scoring in the 29th minute, winning the scuffle in the box to give CSUB their first edge. UCR would equalize in the 33rd, but an insurance goal from Pimentel in the 42nd minute gave the Roadrunners a 2-1 lead ahead of halftime.

The Highlanders tied the match again in the 51st minute but it would be their last tally on the night.

The golden goal came in the 102nd minute from Nikola Lebakos. It was her first notch of the year. Lebakos joins Pimentel, Jamie Ingrassia, Chelsee Duran, Darian Tatum, and Angelica Hurtado in scoring.

"Extremely proud of our team for battling countless obstacles this season and never giving up," said fourth-year head coach Sebastian Vecchio

CSUB played the entire match aggressively, doubling the season shot average in a match with 12. UCR created more corners, but the Roadrunners drew more fouls than the home team.

Haley Slouka earned her second start at goalkeeper, totaling 45 minutes in goal while Flavia Burrell played for 57 minutes and had a game-high four saves.

"We have one more game," added Vecchio, "and every time we step on the field the goal is to move this program forward."

Next up is the 2021 season finale at CSUN on Sunday. Going into action on Thursday, the Matadors were five conference points ahead of the Roadrunners who now sit one win from passing them in league standings.
