CSUB Home Thriller Ends in 2OT Loss

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – There were 29 seconds left between CSU Bakersfield and Long Beach State before the match would have been declared a tie, 0-0, on Sunday night. What looked like a well-deserved draw for the Roadrunners wound up being a 1-0 loss.

CSUB showed a different level of talent against LBSU, playing its most controlled soccer on the season. Bakersfield limited the Beach to two corners and led in shots for the first time at halftime.

Four Roadrunners had at least one shot recorded including Jamie Ingrassia, Caitlin Goetjen, Chelsee Duran, and Karen Flores. Flavia Burrell faced the least number of shots in a period with two, making one save to keep the game 0-0.

Long Beach State added four shots in the second half that challenged Burrell, nine overall but without a goal from either team in regulation the match went to overtime.

Each team tallied one shot – not on frame – in overtime one to force a second sudden death period.

Lena Silano netted her eighth shot of the match on a blocked attempt to end the contest ahead of time expiring and give the Beach the 1-0 win.

Bakersfield (1-12-2, 0-5-1) is on the back half of a four-game home stand with UC Irvine next Thursday, Oct. 21, followed by Senior Night against Hawai'i (10/24).
