Volleyball to Face Big West Leaders on the Road

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield volleyball team has to quickly shift focus this week, leaving the excitement of a 2-0 road weekend behind. The Roadrunners have no time to waste as preparations are in full force for a quick turnaround with an early road game this week and a late-night Saturday meeting with both matches against two of the Big West Conference's leaders.

"We have a tough week ahead of us as we are playing two of the top three teams in our conference right now," said Giovana Melo, CSUB's Director of Volleyball. "Both teams are playing well and have a tradition of making it to the NCAA Tournament. However, I think the team is excited for the challenge. If we can continue to have fun and play focusing on making each other better, we will be in a good battle against those teams."

CSUB (10-4, 3-3 BWC) has set its sights on the Cal Poly Mustangs for a Tuesday, Oct. 12, meeting that will see the two teams clash in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Cal Poly will welcome the `Runners to the Central Coast riding some momentum of its own as the Mustangs have swept their last three opponents.

With an overall record of 7-10, some might downplay the talent of Cal Poly, but the Mustangs endured a testing non-conference schedule. Along the way, Cal Poly suffered losses against five opponents ranked in the Top 25. Sitting on a 5-1 Big West record, Cal Poly has struggled at home thus far, going 1-3 in matches held inside of Motts Athletic Center.

After Tuesday's match, the `Runners will have a quick chance to breathe before wrapping up their four-game road stint this weekend. CSUB will hop on a plane and fly to Honolulu to face the Hawai'i on Saturday, Oct. 16. The Rainbow Wahine woke up on Monday with an undefeated record (6-0) in league play and Hawai'i has not lost in a month since splitting a pair of matches against USC.

Tuesday's match against Cal Poly is scheduled for a 5 p.m. (PT) first serve. Because of the time change, `Runner fans will have to stay up until 10 p.m. (PT) for the start of the match in Hawai'i. Fans will be able to follow CSUB on the road this week through a variety of live streams and live stats.
