`Runners Defeat Cal State Fullerton, Earn League Sweep

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball had a pair finish in double figures, but it was a collective effort on Friday. Miracle Saxon paced the team with a season-high in the contest to help fuel the Roadrunners win past Cal State Fullerton and sweep the Titans. CSUB won, 57-56.

Saxon finished with sixteen points and added a game-best eight rebounds on the night. Jayden Eggleston joined her in double digits as she finished with fifteen points. Sophomore point guard Lexus Green chipped in seven points and two assists for the `Runners.

Cal State Fullerton had one player in double figures in leading scorer Gabbi Vidmar (20) and a pair with nine points.

First Quarter

Bakersfield was on the scoreboard first off of a driving layup from graduate senior Andie Easley. It would take Cal State Fullerton nearly five minutes to make a field goal as CSUB led 5-3 at 5:11 in the period. Green extended the `Runners lead to four with a pull up jumper. The Titans tied the game at eight late in the period. CSF would take the quarter, 11-10.

Second Quarter

There were six lead changes and four tied scores in the second quarter. The last 1:51 of the first half would prove to be instrumental for the Roadrunners who found themselves with a two-point advantage going into the locker rooms after being down by as much as eight. Bakersfield led, 27-25.

CSUB had three players with five points (Green, Saxon and Easley).

Third Quarter

Cal State Fullerton shot 45.5% from the field in the third quarter to energize a comeback and potential series split. The Titans recorded the largest quarter scoring margin in the third. CSF was ahead three points heading into the final ten minutes of the contest, 42-39.

Fourth Quarter

It came down to the last 0.5 seconds of the game to decide a winner. There were three lead changes and three tied scores in the quarter. It was 53 all with under two minutes but a turnaround jumper from Saxon and a minute and a half of good team defense helped the Roadrunners down the line. Cal State Fullerton would score with eight seconds left, foul, then score again now down, 57-56. The Titans were awarded the ball back with 0.5 but couldn't convert.

Bakersfield earned its second Big West Conference sweep with the win over Cal State Fullerton.
