Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

`Runners Miss as UCR Comes Away With Sweep

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Redshirt junior Jayden Eggleston led CSU Bakersfield for the second night in a row on Saturday. The Roadrunners had a pair on the women's basketball team finish with ten or more, but it wasn't enough to get a win and split the UC Riverside league series. UCR won, 64-45.

Eggleston finished with a team-best thirteen points and added eight rebounds. Graduate senior Andie Easley added ten points, five rebounds and three assists on the night.

UCR had four players in double figures including Daphne Gnago (16), Lauryn Pointer (11), Jordan Webster (11) and Jada Holland (10).

First Quarter

UC Riverside sprinted off to a 6-0 lead that prompted head coach Greg McCall to call a timeout in the first two and a half minutes of the contest. UCR came out of the timeout with a full court press that redshirt junior Jayden Eggleston sliced and diced for CSUB's first points. The score was within one (6-5) four minutes into the game before the Highlanders stretched their lead back to six. UCR would add twelve and hold CSUB to six first quarter points.

Second Quarter

Bakersfield and UCR matched each other in second quarter points at eight giving the visitors a twelve-point lead at half time, 26-14.

Third Quarter

UC Riverside used a strong third quarter effort on both ends of the floor to earn their largest lead of the night – twenty-five. CSUB held the Highlanders without a basket in the last two minutes of the quarter but found themselves down twenty-one once time had expired.

Fourth Quarter

The Roadrunners scored the most points (19) and made the most baskets (7) of any quarter in the contest. CSUB arguably saved their best basketball for the fourth period, but the damage had already been done. UCR would earn their first conference sweep with the win.
