Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

CSUB Gets Conference Sweep Over GCU

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Behind a tremendous defensive effort and a second, third and fourth-quarter advantage, the CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team earned an eight-point victory over Grand Canyon on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Roadrunners bagged the conference sweep over the Lopes. It was Senior Day for a pair of `Runners as senior Dalis Jones and redshirt junior Daije Harris were honored with framed jerseys and flowers before the contest. Jones and Harris came to CSUB in the same season and have each made contributions to the program since 2016-17.

On the game, freshman guard Lexus Green led Bakersfield in scoring with ten points and added two steals. Jayden Eggleston and Andie Easley each had eight points. Both Eggleston and Easley did a little bit of everything for CSUB with a stat in rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. Kate Tokuhara had a game-high four steals. As a team, the Roadrunners matched their season-best in forced turnovers with twenty-seven.

GCU held their largest lead, a five-point edge, after the first quarter and took a two-point scoring margin into halftime, up 17-15 over the `Runners. In the third quarter, CSUB started to heat up shooting 38 percent from the floor, including 2-of-4 from behind the three-point line but still trailed by the same two-point margin going into the final period down 29-31. Bakersfield saved its best basketball for the fourth quarter closing the game on 46 percent shooting from the field.

CSUB had 16 steals to GCU's five and did a better job of capitalizing off turnovers with sixteen of the `Runners final forty-nine points coming off the Lopes' turnovers.

After the win, Bakersfield improves to 16-13 on the season. With an 8-8 Western Athletic Conference record, CSUB holds the sixth seed in the league standings and will play third-seeded Grand Canyon again next week in Vegas. The three-peat will be the final first round matchup of the day, scheduled for Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in the Orleans Hotel Arena.
