CSUB Ready for Big West/West Coast Challenge

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – With great momentum from a 5-1 start to the beach volleyball season, CSU Bakersfield is gearing up for a busy day in the sand this weekend. On Saturday, Mar. 7, the Roadrunners will take part in the Big West/West Coast Challenge, pitting the two conferences against each other in a day full of beach volleyball matches.

"We are very much looking forward to this weekend," said CSUB Head Coach Cesar Benatti. "All the WCC teams are highly qualified and playing in the beach is always a great challenge for us. We have been having a great week of practice and the good start to our season is giving us a good amount of confidence. We feel really prepared for a fun weekend of games. It will also be a good opportunity to check out our other Big West opponents since CSUN and Sac State are also playing in Santa Cruz."

Bakersfield is scheduled to play its first match of the Challenge on Saturday in a 9 a.m. clash with Santa Clara. The two teams met just last weekend in Irvine, Calif. and the `Runners bested the Broncos, 4-1. After a pair of matches of waiting, CSUB will go up against Saint Mary's at noon before wrapping up its busy day against San Francisco at 3 p.m. The `Runners are 1-0 all-time against Saint Mary's and split their only two meetings against USF.

The `Runners have been led by their top three pairings so far this season. The Bakersfield 2's – Emily Hansen/Hana Makonova – and 3's – Brooke Boiseau/Rafa Bonifacio – are all 6-0 on the year. Meanwhile, Bakersfield's No. 1 pair of Cameron Solberg and Milica Vukobrat has posted a 5-1 record.
