`Runners Head South to Face California Baptist

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A three-game road stint will end on Thursday night, Feb. 6, when the CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team goes up against Western Athletic Conference foe California Baptist. The Roadrunners and Lancers are set to clash in the CBU Events Center in Riverside, Calif. with tipoff slated for 7 p.m.

"We had a great practice yesterday and the guys seemed encouraged," said Rod Barnes, Head Coach of the `Runners. "We have seen everybody in the league now and our guys are confident that they can play with anybody in the league. Right now, our biggest concern is consistency. We have to grow in that area. We have to be able to put two games together, back-to-back."

Since California Baptist joined the WAC last season, the `Runners and Lancers have played three times. In all three meetings, the road team earned a victory and Barnes has his squad focused on continuing that trend in Riverside this week: "When we went down there, I thought that our guys were really locked in and focused. I think that both teams understand and realize the way you have to play and be focused on the road. Obviously, we never guarantee wins, but I think our guys are really locked in and ready to play."

After splitting the regular season series a year ago, CBU came to Bakersfield this January and stole a road win from the `Runners, 83-75. CSUB pulled within four points with 20 seconds on the clock, but CBU held off the `Runners to seal the victory. Junior guards De'Monte Buckingham and Taze Moore led Bakersfield in that game, recording 23 points each.

Last month, CSUB held one of the WAC's top scorers in Milan Acquaah fairly quiet, but Brandon Boyd tallied 23 points for the Lancers. CBU (16-6, 6-2 WAC) currently sits two-games ahead of a tight bunch in second place in the WAC standings. Including that game in Bakersfield, the Lancers have won six of their last seven contests and they have returned to the CBU Events Center after a 2-0 road trip at Utah Valley and Seattle U.

Tickets for Thursday's contest are available for purchase. The game will be live streamed on the WAC Digital Network and Isaac Lowenkron will call the action live via radio. Links to tickets, both broadcasts, and live stats can all be found on the CSUB men's basketball schedule page.
