All-WAC Accolades Rolling in for Jorgensen

`Runners Picked Sixth in Conference Pre-Season Poll

Bakersfield, Calif. – Senior infielder Tyler Jorgensen grabbed his second Pre-Season All-Western Athletic Conference nod in as many weeks Wednesday, when the conference announced its pre-season predictions and awards. Jorgensen was the lone Roadrunner recognized by the conference, while the league's coaches projected CSU Bakersfield to finish sixth this season.

Jorgensen, who hit .375 with a .425 on-base percentage and a .510 slugging percentage in league play last season was also tabbed as an All-WAC selection by Perfect Game. The Gilbert, Ariz., native hit .323 overall with a pair of home runs and 30 RBI in 2019, after spending his first two collegiate seasons at Chandler-Gilbert CC.

Perfect Game described Jorgensen as, "a versatile defender with size and skill."

The WAC also announced its pre-season coaches' predictions for order of finish. The `Runners were projected to finish sixth with 39 points, the same spot they finished in last season when the posted a 12-15 record in league play.

Four teams received first-place votes, indicating a wide-open season awaits WAC baseball and its teams.

Grand Canyon was the pre-season favorite, garnering 73 points, but Sacramento State grabbed the most first-place votes with four. GCU, NM State and UTRGV each received two first place votes.

NM State's Nick Gonzalez was tabbed as the league's pre-season Player of the Year, while GCU's Kade Mechals was the projected WAC Pitcher of the Year.

The `Runners are slated to open the 2020 season a week from Friday, when they begin a series with Pac-12 foe Washington State at Hardt Field on Feb. 14 at 6 p.m. It's the first of 33 home games for Bakersfield this season.
