`Runners Open 2020 Season With Two Sweeps



BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2020 beach volleyball season got off to a great start for CSU Bakersfield as the Roadrunners swept a pair of opponents at home on Friday. CSUB made quick work of Westcliff before finishing off the day with a sweep over Marymount (Calif.) at the Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex at the Student Rec Center.

"Our first day of competition was awesome," said Cesar Benatti, Head Coach of the CSUB beach volleyball team. "Everything that we have been working on was executed really well. We managed the tough moments well and got our rhythm in every single match. I couldn't ask for a better beginning."

CSUB 5, Westcliff 0

In the No. 2 pairing, Emily Hansen and Hana Makonova dominated Westcliff for a 21-8, 21-3 victory. Brooke Boiseau and Rafa Bonifacio combined for a solid victory at No. 3, downing the Warrior pair by scores of 21-10 and 21-11.

Marymount started the match one point down due to having to forfeit a pairing. Leisa Elisaia and Jazleigh Ortiz cruised to a dominant win as the No. 5 pair, 21-5 and 21-13 as CSUB improved to 2-0 to start the season.
