Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Easley's Career-High Not Enough, UVU Wins 63-56

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A scoring advantage in the third quarter gave the CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team a four-point lead heading into the final period. The Roadrunners were unable to pull out the win over Utah Valley as the Wolverines escaped with a 63-56 victory in the Icardo Center. On the game, Andie Easley and Jayden Eggleston led the `Runner cause on Thursday night. Easley finished with a game and career-high nineteen points while Eggleston did a little bit of everything, posting fourteen points, eight rebounds, one assist, two steals and four blocks. Vanessa Austin had a game and career-high five blocks. She and Miracle Saxon combined for twenty rebounds and seventeen points against UVU. As a team, CSUB totaled a season-high nine blocks and was perfect from the charity stripe.

Bakersfield was in a deadlock with Utah Valley after the first quarter, but took a six-point deficit into halftime, down 23-29. In the third quarter, the `Runners made four more baskets than the visiting Wolverines. UVU's fourth and overtime period was even stronger though as the visiting team hit 40 and 66 percent of their shots, respectively. CSUB made three free throws at the end of the fourth to force an extra period but made just 3-of-14 field goal attempts in overtime and the team could not get buckets or stops when needed down the stretch.

CSUB did not capitalize on its opportunities, shooting just 30 percent from the field and 3-of-14 (.214) from three-point range. The `Runner bench outscored the Wolverines 11-8 and CSUB owned the paint, 30-26.

After the loss, Bakersfield falls 14-11 on the season. With a 6-6 Western Athletic Conference record, the `Runners sit in the middle of a large group of teams contending for spots in the league standings. As of Thursday, CSUB is one of four teams tied or within one game of each other fighting for third place, including Seattle U who visits the Icardo Center on Saturday.
