`Runners Headed to Utah Valley, Seattle U

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Only five games remain in the 2019-20 regular season as the CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team prepares for its final three weeks before the Western Athletic Conference Tournament. This week, the Roadrunners are headed back out on the road for a pair of games scheduled against Utah Valley and Seattle U.

"Yesterday we had one of our better practices in a couple weeks," said Rod Barnes, Head Coach of the `Runners, about his team's response to a tough loss on Saturday. "Even in our preparation for Utah Valley, we're not talking about the other teams. We're working to get better at what we do. Our coaches are working extremely hard to make that happen."

On Thursday, Feb. 20, the `Runners will be in Orem, Utah to take on the Utah Valley Wolverines. UVU (9-17, 3-8 WAC) is on a four-game skid after suffering a pair of road losses against NM State and UTRGV last week. When the Wolverines came to Bakersfield in January, the `Runners handed UVU a loss in thrilling, one-point overtime game. In Orem this week, Utah Valley will look to exact revenge against CSUB in a series that has been extremely even. The `Runners boast a 10-8 record against the Wolverines in the Barnes era and a 13-11 record all-time.

A trip to the Pacific Northwest is in store for Saturday, Feb. 22, as CSUB is set to face Seattle U. The Redhawks (12-14, 5-6 WAC) are currently tied with the `Runners for fifth in the WAC standings and both teams need some momentum to finish strong down the stretch. Seattle U also dropped a pair of road games to UTRGV and NMSU last week, but the Redhawks bested the `Runners in the Icardo Center last month. CSUB allowed 86 points in that game, but the `Runner defense has limited its last five opponents to less than 75 points.

Thursday's game in Orem is set for a 6 p.m. (PT) tipoff while the `Runners and Redhawks will clash at 7 p.m. (PT) in Seattle. Both games will be streamed live via the WAC Digital Network and Isaac Lowenkron will be calling the games courtside on 1180 AM/96.1 FM KERN radio. Links to live streams, audio broadcasts, live stats, tickets, and more are all available on the CSUB men's basketball schedule page.
