CSUB Wins 58-51 at Chicago State



CHICAGO, Ill. – A dominant presence in the paint gave the CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team the edge needed to hold off a late rally from Chicago State as the Roadrunners won 58-51 on the road.
 
Vanessa Austin led the Roadrunners' cause on Thursday night. Austin dominated the lower block and had a team-high fourteen points and seven rebounds. She was 5-of-7 from the field and a near perfect 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. Makenzie
 
Eggleston and Green both chipped in nine points and were active on the defensive end with three and two steals, respectively.
 
Bakersfield held a one-point advantage after the first period and with another one-point edge in the second took a two-point advantage into halftime, 28-26. In the third quarter, the `Runners made 71 percent of their free throws, outscoring the Cougars 13-10 in the period. CSUB's quarter-best seventeen points in the fourth was just the late gain they needed to pull away.
 
The Roadrunners' bench outscored CSU 30-0 on the game as the Cougars starters scored all fifty-one of their team points. CSUB owned the paint, 28-12.
 
After the win, Bakersfield improves to 14-9 on the season. With a 6-4 Western Athletic Conference record, the `Runners sit one game away from second place in the league standings. CSUB makes one last stop in Kansas City, Mo. On Saturday before coming home for a pair of home games next week.
