Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

CSUB Defeats NM State, Moves to the Top of WAC Standings

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Behind a pair of double figure scorers and an all-around team effort on defense, the CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team moved to the top of the conference standings on Thursday night with a 60-59 win over NM State. The top of the Western Athletic Conference women's basketball standings is still tight as the first half of league games come to an end. Bakersfield, Kansas City and Grand Canyon each have two losses while Utah Valley and the Aggies have three.

With the win, Bakersfield improves to 5-2 in conference but with Rio Grande Valley slated for Saturday afternoon, CSUB must continue to find a way to win in order to stay atop the other eight teams in the WAC.

It was a thriller that had everyone in the building at their edge of their seats and left Roadrunner fans dazzled once again by a gutsy performance from the women. The game was tied ten times and saw nine lead changes.

NM State had a 12-10 advantage going into the second quarter but with nine-point quarters from both teams, halftime was a low 19-21 deficit for the `Runners.

Bakersfield put together the largest scoring margin in the third period – three points. The Aggies had built the largest lead of the contest in the fourth quarter, up seven points in the first two minutes of the period. It was the Roadrunners' ability to get defensive stops when needed that earned them the win.
Jayden Eggleston led CSUB in scoring and the game in blocks with eighteen points and two rejections. Ashley Austin joined Eggleston in double figure with thirteen points. She also had a game-high five steals.

Senior point guard, Dalis Jones, and an Aggie matched for a game-best four assists on the night.

Bakersfield returns to the blue floor on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tipoff with the Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros.

It will be a fun-filled day with a pre-game clinic for girls aged 5-14 to celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day and a pre-game reception for those alumni being honored by athletic director Dr. Kenneth "Ziggy" Siegfried for ADs Appreciation.
