`Runners Open WAC Basketball at GCU

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team is undefeated at home but without a win on the road. CSUB closed 2019 away from home and will open the new year the same when the Grand Canyon Lopes welcome CSUB to GCU Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The league's head coaches projected the Roadrunners to finish fifth back in October. Now ahead of WAC action, Bakersfield boasts the best non-conference win-lost record, a bench that's averaging thirty-eight points a game and a team that receiving votes on the Mid Major Top 25.

Grand Canyon suffered an eighteen-point road loss to California Berkley last weekend, but at home the Lopes are near seventy-two percent in win percentage.

Both teams saw a common opponent in UC Santa Barbara before Christmas break. Grand Canyon defeated the Gauchos by one point at home (12/19) after the `Runners had ran off with a ten-point win at the Icardo Center (12/14).

GCU is one of the longest running all-time series in CSUB women's basketball history. Bakersfield leads the series with twenty-eight wins and three losses. The first and last time CSUB lost to the Lopes in Phoenix was seven seasons ago (1/19/14).
