NM State in the Icardo this Thursday, RGV on Saturday

Saturday, Feb. 1 marks the designated National Girls & Women in Sports Day/AD Appreciation game.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – On the back end of the first half of conference games, the CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team and four other WAC teams sit with two league losses. CSUB has New Mexico State (1/30) and Rio Grande Valley (2/1) on its docket this week at the Icardo Center.

Bakersfield (12-7, 4-2 WAC) and NM State (7-12, 4-2 WAC) will meet for the fourteenth time in the all-time series on Thursday. At home, the all-time series is tied 3-3 with the Aggies taking last year's meeting at the buzzer.

The Roadrunners and the Vaqueros (8-11, 3-3 WAC) will meet for the twelfth time in the all-time series on Saturday. CSUB has never lost to RGV in the Icardo Center as the `Runners hold a 4-0 home record.

Neither visiting team had more than six wins at the start of conference games four weeks ago but the Aggies are on a two-game win streak with an identical league record as CSUB and RGV is right in the thick of things with an even kill conference slate.

Bakersfield and Rio Grande Valley did not have a common non-conference opponent but the `Runners shared a non-conference foe with the Aggies in UC Riverside. Both teams fell to the Highlanders by a single possession.

CSUB Athletics will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Saturday, Feb. 1, by inviting girls aged 5-14 to a multi-sport clinic with CSUB female athletes, an autograph session & photo booth, lunch and attendance at the women's basketball game that afternoon.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day is meant to acknowledge the accomplishments of female athletes, increase the influence on sport participation for women and girls, and honor the progress of equality for women in sports.

Registration is free and can be completed online, here. Information needed to submit the RSVP form include the participant's legal guardians name, child's name, child's age group and any food allergies. Check in is at the Icardo Center from 9:45-10:15 a.m.

Check-in is in the Icardo Room and slated to start at 11:30 a.m. For more information, please contact Logan Belz by email, here.
