`Runners Prepare to Host Utah Valley, Seattle U

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – An unblemished road trip led the CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team to a 3-1 Western Athletic Conference record as the Roadrunners are tied for second place in the league standings. This week, CSUB will defend its home court in a pair of games when Utah Valley and Seattle U visit the Icardo Center.

Rod Barnes, Bakersfield's Head Coach, described the challenges ahead of his `Runners this week: "Utah Valley is a tough team. They shoot a lot of threes…It seems like every time we play them it goes down to the wire. We're expecting two really tough games this week. Our guys are excited. They have realized how important home games are. We have dropped one already and we want to make sure that doesn't happen again."

On Thursday, Jan. 23, CSUB will battle Utah Valley (8-12, 2-3 WAC) on the blue Kern Schools Court. The Wolverines broke a three-game skid on Saturday with a home win over UTRGV, 72-70. After missing a month early in the season, 6-foot-7 guard Isaiah White leads all Wolverines with 14.4 points per game. White is joined by three teammates with double-digit scoring averages, but UVU averages less than 70 points a contest on the season.

The `Runners will welcome Seattle U (10-10, 3-2 WAC) to the Icardo Center on Saturday, Jan. 25, for the 5th Annual Grimmway Farms Ag Night presented by Sun Pacific Farming. The Redhawks had a three-game win streak going before WAC-leading NM State came to town on Saturday. SU dropped that home contest to the Aggies, 75-67. The Redhawks boast the top scorer in the league in Terrell Brown, who has averaged 19.3 points per game this year. Seattle U scores nearly 74 points per game, but its defense is allowing nearly 71 points to opponents.

CSUB's 2-0 road trip to the Midwest was made possible, in part, by the efforts of redshirt junior Justin Edler-Davis. The guard/forward averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game on the week and was named WAC Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com for his efforts. The biggest moment of the week came in Thursday's win in Kansas City when Edler-Davis scored 13 of his career-high 25 points in overtime.

Tipoff for both Thursday's and Saturday's games in Bakersfield is scheduled for 7 p.m. Both contests will be broadcasted live via WatchESPN while tickets are still available via GoRunners.com/tickets.
