Best Preseason Start for Women's Soccer since 2013



BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's women's soccer team closed their 2019 non-conference slate with a program-best preseason start (5-5-1) since joining the Western Athletic Conference in 2013, but UC Santa Barbara handed the Roadrunners a 3-0 shutout and their second-straight loss. UCSB took advantage of their opportunities in the first half. Shaelan Murison played a cross to Isabella Viana in the 15th minute. Dylan Lewis then took a pass from Cate Post and booted in the Gaucho's second goal of the afternoon in the 32nd minute. 
 
The second half was relatively quiet, outside of UCSB's third and final goal that came in the 82nd minute. Murison snuck one past CSUB's goalie off Post's second assist on the afternoon.
 
"When you play the best, you have to bring your best effort," explained head coach Sebastian Vecchio. "We defended well but were poor on the ball. We're looking forward to getting better this week with WAC season starting on Friday!"
 
CSUB opens league action next weekend when the Roadrunners welcome California Baptist and Utah Valley to Main Soccer Field and round out their four-game home stand in Bakersfield.
