Women's Soccer Looks for Payback in Week 2

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team has a pair of home contests at the Main Soccer Field this week. Bakersfield welcomes UC Riverside and UNLV tonight and Sunday, respectively, but with both teams taking the Roadrunners down on the road last season, it'll be somewhat a week of vengeance for them as they look for some payback on their own pitch.

The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. tonight. Gates open an hour ahead of kick off.

"I am very excited for this weekend's competition that we are facing at the Main Soccer Field," said head coach Sebastian Vecchio.

CSUB enters the second week of regular season with a 1-1 mark. Junior Eszter Toth and freshman Jaden Skinner lead the team in scoring with one goal each. Andrea Neves has been consistent in goal, getting a hand on most touches in the box and directing a young defensive line that hasn't allowed more than one goal in a single-contest.

"We are looking to see how much and how fast we can improve from last weekend," explained Vecchio.

UC Riverside leads the all-time series, but the Highlanders boast ten new players on their roster after losing eight instrumental seniors a year ago. Although UCR has started the 2019 season slow with an 0-2 start, they're still very capable of challenging the Roadrunners tonight.

Bakersfield and the Rebels have had a one-sided relationship since the series began a decade ago. UNLV has been to the Main Soccer Field just once, winning all four meetings between the two teams since 2009.

The Rebels are set to take the field at 1 p.m. on Sunday with gates opening for spectators an hour ahead of kick off.

"We are looking forward to competing against two teams that have had the better of us for the last couple of seasons," added Vecchio.
