Bakersfield Opens on Road at Pacific

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2019 women's soccer season is officially here, and CSU Bakersfield is set to open their nonconference schedule today at the University of Pacific. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start time.

"I am extremely excited to ge on the field and kick off our 2019 season," said head coach Sebastian Veccho.

Although Pacific holds home field advantage over the Roadrunners and owns the overall series, Bakersfield took the last meeting in double overtime last year. Head coach Kerri Scroope will have to figure out the new dynamic of her young roster on the fly tonight.

A squad similar to CSUB in that the West Coast Conference club also boasts a roster filled mainly with freshmen and sophomore athletes. The difference, Scroope's lineup has yet to see an NCAA opponent as the Tigers are coming off an alumni match played over the weekend.

Bakersfield found success in different combinations on the pitch last week when the Roadrunners hosted an exhibition contest and blanked their opponent 5-0. At times, Vecchio had nine newcomers on the field working as one cohesive unit.

"This is special group, while we have to continue to get better, we are in a position where we can compete right now," added Vecchio.

Tonight's match will come down not to player experience but which coach is able to throw the right combination of players on the field the longest.
