Curran Earns All-Conference Nod

PHOENIX -- On Tuesday night at the Western Athletic Conference Softball Awards Banquet, CSU Bakersfield had one student-athlete named to the league's All-Conference teams in shortstop Cydney Curran. The junior Roadrunner earned a Second Team All-WAC nod in the conference's Coaches Poll after the best season of her career.

Curran, a native of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, has been one of the nation's leaders in triples also season long, resetting Bakersfield's single-season record in the category along the way. She ended the regular season with nine triples and currently ranks second among all NCAA Division I student-athletes in the category with postseason play still remaining.

Certainly not a one-trick pony, Curran paces all `Runners with a .345 batting average this year, which ranks fifth among all WAC student-athletes. She also chooses her pitches wisely as the junior is the toughest in the conference to strikeout with just 0.20 per game.

Defensively, Curran has put together the most impressive performance of her career this year, making one dazzling play after the next including throwing out a batter from her knees, which was featured as yesterday's WAC Top Play of the Week among all sports. CSUB is No. 1 in NCAA Division I in double plays this season, turning two 32 times. As Bakersfield's shortstop, Curran is often involved in these plays, contributing on 12 double plays herself.

CSUB will kick off the WAC Tournament on Wednesday with a single game at 5:30 p.m. (PT) in Phoenix. Tune in to the WAC Digital Network to see the sixth-seeded `Runners take on No. 3 Grand Canyon in the first round of the double-elimination tournament.
