GCU Slips By CSUB Baseball in Game 1

PHOENIX, Ariz. – CSU Bakersfield's baseball team held a 4-3 lead on Grand Canyon University, but the Roadrunners were unable to answer in the next three innings as the Lopes took a 6-4 victory at home.

CSUB jumped out to an early lead on GCU thanks to a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. After Damian Henderson was tagged out at second, Evan Berkey reached on a fielder's choice and sent Sergio Robles into home plate. Daniel Carrizosa followed that up with a single through the left side, giving the `Runners a 2-0 advantage.

Top of the sixth inning Bakersfield tallied two more runs to retake the lead 4-3, but the Lopes were able to tack on one run in the bottom and next two innings. The Roadrunners were unable to respond in the ninth and fell to GCU by the two-run margin.

Carrizosa had a team-high 2 RBI and went 50% at bat on the night. Berkey added an RBI and hit two-of-three at the plate. CSUB (19-29, 7-12 WAC) will continue the three-game series tomorrow night. The `Runners are set to face off against Grand Canyon at 6 p.m.
