Five Advance in WAC Preliminary Running Events

OREM, Utah – CSU Bakersfield's men and women's track and field teams had one all-conference recipient, five athletes advance in their respective preliminary running events, and multiple personal bests.

Corbin Chronister picked up his second All-WAC honor with a sixth-place finish in shot put when the sophomore thrower threw 49-10.50 after going nearly 200 feet in hammer yesterday. He returns tomorrow for his third and final event as he enters the discus throw ranked first in the league.

Mariah LeSure ran 12:08 in the 100-meter dash to advance to her first outdoor championship final. Freshman JJ Flores advanced in the 400-meter dash preliminaries with a personal-best time of 48.60. Classmate Riley Slayton had the third fastest time (1:03.33) in the 400-meter hurdles as the freshman advanced to her first final. Redshirt senior Gabe Gaeta advances in the 400-meter hurdles for the fourth time after he posted the second-fastest time (53:71) in the event.

Defending 800-meter champion, Curtis Threlkeld finished with the fastest preliminary time in the event to advance to his third-straight conference final appearance. A title win tomorrow would make Threlkeld just the second athlete to win gold back-to-back (Wilmert, 2014, 15).

Both programs had significant gains individually as three athletes reset personal records. She'Pree Brevil jumped 17-02.25 feet in the long jump, Jazmine Ramey recorded her career-best in the 200-meter dash, while senior Ronnie LeSure rounds out the group with his fastest time in the 400-meter race.

Bakersfield's high jump and triple jump athletes take to their respective pits. Tim Van Horn and Joselito Flores look for their fourth and third All-WAC nods, respectively, in the high jump. Antonia Beason and Justin Fobel sit sixth on their respective performance lists. Beason looks for her first podium finish in the high jump and Justin in the triple.

"We're very proud of today's efforts," said Director of Track & Field, Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "We're all geared up and looking forward to tomorrow!"
