Beach Volleyball Returns Home for Senior Day

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Ally Barber, Mattison DeGarmo and Briannah Mariner will play their final matches at the Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex at the Student Rec Center on Saturday when the CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team hosts Ottawa University (Ariz.) and No. 13 Loyola Marymount.

CSUB (6-11) is coming off a tough weekend at the Big West Challenge. The Roadrunners went 1-5 with a victory over Sacramento State in Pismo Beach. CSUB's top pair, DeGarmo and Mariner, posted victories over CSUN and Sacramento State, while Emily Hansen and Brooke Boiseau added wins over the Hornets and UC Davis at No. 4. Rafa Bonifacio and Ally Barber matched Boiseau and Hansen at the No. 5 spot.

For the season, Cameron Solberg and Milica Vukobrat lead the team in victories with eight, but individually, Boiseau has eight wins of her own. Six of them have come with Krista Hernandez, but her last two came with Hansen in Pismo. Hana Makonova and Sidney Wicks are just behind the trio with seven wins at the No. 3 spot in the order.

The Last Time…
Saturday will be the last time to get a glimpse of three seniors, who will be recognized prior to the opening match of the day against OUAZ.
Barber is in the midst of the best season of her career and already has six wins on the year. She is a two-time academic All-Big West selection and is a communications major with an emphasis in public relations and ethnic studies.

In just two seasons on the beach, DeGarmo has totaled 17 victories, including six this season at the top spot in the lineup with Mariner. Last season with Emily Lopes, she had 11 victories which was the most on the team and tied for 10^th in CSUB history. Her 17 victories are also good for ninth on the all-time chart. In her career, she is 7-1 all-time against CSUN including a 3-0 mark this season. The Castle Rock, Colo. native is a business management major and an academic All-Big West selection.

Mariner has racked up 15 wins in her career, including six this season at the No. 1 position with DeGarmo. The pair is 3-0 on the season against CSUN and has a victory over Sacramento State. Last season with Aleksandra Djordjevic, she beat CSUN twice, Sac State twice and had wins over Utah and Missouri State. Mariner is a kinesiology major with a minor in liberal studies.

Scouting the Opponents
In just the first year of the program, OUAZ has yet to be defeated and heads to Bakersfield with a sparkling 16-0 record. The Spirit, who compete at the NAIA level, have yet to face a NCAA Division I opponent. OUAZ's No. 4 pair of Mariah Clausen and Jessica Youngberg is 11-0 on the year, while the top pair, comprised of Andrea Gonzalez and Viri Serrano, have just one loss on their resume.

The Lions are currently ranked 13^th in the nation and are coming off of a 4-1 loss to No. 1 UCLA. On the season, LMU is 17-8 with victories over nationally-rated Grand Canyon, Saint Mary's and Cal Poly. Jessie Prichard and Sara Kova are the Lions' top pair with 22 victories on the year, spread out between the top four pairings, but mostly at the No. 2 spot. McKayla Ferris and Savannah Slattery are 15-18 at the No. 1 position and are second on the team in wins.

The Roadrunners will open the day with the Sprit at 10:00 a.m. and will play LMU at 2:00 p.m.
