Beach Volleyball Drops a Pair in Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team lost a pair of matches on Saturday in Long Beach. The Roadrunners dropped a tough match to Colorado Mesa 3-2 to start the day and were swept by Washington in their second match.

The Roadrunners and the Mavericks were all tied up at 1-1 after the first set of matches. Milica Vokobrat and Cameron Solberg continued their impressive freshman campaigns with a 21-13, 21-8 victory. The freshman pair already has eight wins on the season. CSUB's Sidney Wicks and Hana Makonova were victorious at No. 3, 21-13, 21-10, but Colorado Mesa outlasted the `Runners at the No. 1 and No. 5 pairs. Mattison Degarmo and Briannah Mariner lost a marathon 29-27 first set before falling 21-18 in the second. Brooke Boiseau and Krista Hernandez won their first set 22-20, but ran out of steam and dropped the final two sets 21-12, 15-11.

CSUB was unable to solve a tough Husky lineup in the second match of the day. The `Runners didn't win a set against a Washington team that was receiving votes in the national rankings. Vokobrat and Solberg and Wicks and Makonova both scored a team-high 19 points in one of their sets, but neither were able to come up with the set victory.
