Roadrunners to Meet Huskies, Mavericks in Long Beach

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team will travel to Long Beach on Saturday to take on two out-of-state foes.  The Roadrunners will open the day with Colorado Mesa at 1:00 p.m. and will finish it with Washington at 2:00 p.m.

CSUB (5-4) went 2-2 on its last homestand.  The `Runners swept Westcliff on Tuesday and knocked off Marymount California University on Saturday.  The beach volleyball team's losses came against CSUN and North Florida.

Mattison DeGarmo and Briannah Mariner (4-5) are the Roadrunners' top pair, but freshman Cameron Solberg and Milica Vukobrat have been the most successful.  The duo has racked up seven victories to just two losses to begin the season and went a perfect 4-0 on the homestand.  With half a season left to play, the No. 2 pair in the lineup may threaten the school record of 13 victories set in 2014 by Mariah Alvidrez and Shayna Guitare.

Brooke Boiseau and Krista Hernandez are right behind them with a 6-3 mark.  They are 5-2 at the No. 5 position and are 1-1 at No. 4.  Hana Makonova and Sidney Wicks have played the entire season at No. 3 and sport a 5-4 record.  Ally Barber has been a regular in the lineup as well.  She's gone 4-3 with Rafa Bonifacion at No. 4 and 1-1 with Emily Hansen at No. 5.

The Huskies (3-3) are receiving votes in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll.  CSUB is 1-1 against teams receiving votes in the Top 20 poll.  The Roadrunners beat CSUN earlier this season, but lost to North Florida on Tuesday.

Washington has won its three last three matches with victories over Portland (4-1), Oregon (3-2) and Boise State (4-1).  The Huskies will meet Nebraska on Saturday prior to facing the Roadrunners.  Washington's No. 2 position is the only spot in the order that's over .500 so far this year.  Shayne McPherson and Kara Bajema are 3-0 at No. 2, while Destiny Julye and Kristen Gengenbacher have gone earned three victories at No. 1.

The Mavericks (1-4) will open the day with CSUB on Saturday.  Colorado Mesa's only victory so far this season was a 3-2 victory over Benedictine University at Mesa.  The Mavericks have been swept by Arizona, Boise State and Loyola Marymount, while losing 4-1 to CSUN.
