Beach Volleyball Returns Home Saturday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – After competing on the road the past two weekends, the CSU Bakersfield Beach Volleyball team will return home on Saturday when they host Marymount California at 10:00 a.m. and CSUN at 2:00 p.m.

The Roadrunners (3-2) are undefeated at the Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex so far this season. On the opening weekend of the season, CSUB defeated Irvine Valley, Gavilan, Cal State LA and Vanguard. The `Runners and the Matadors should be well acclimated to each other's styles at this point. The two teams have competed against each other for the past two weekends. CSUB defeated CSUN 4-1 on March 2 at Zuma Beach.

CSUB's lineup has remained unchanged since the opening weekend. Seniors Mattison DeGarmo and Briannah Mariner have competed at the No. 1 spot in the lineup, while a pair of freshman, Cameron Solberg and Milica Vukobrat have competed at the No. 2 position. Hana Makonova and Sidney Wicks are the No. 3 pair, Ally Barber and Rafa Bonifacio are the No. 4 team and Brooke Boiseau and Krista Hernandez round out the lineup at No. 5. DeGarmo and Mariner are 2-3 on the season, while all the other pairs sport a 3-2 record with both losses coming to nationally-ranked Long Beach State and Pepperdine.

CSUN (3-5) split with Missouri State and Vanguard on Wednesday in Northridge. They lost 4-1 to the Bears and beat the Lions by the same score. In the last dual with the Matadors, CSUB dropped the No. 1 match, but swept No. 2-No. 5 to win 4-1.

Marymount is currently 1-3 on the season and will take on Cal State LA tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. before making the trip to Bakersfield. The Mariners lone victory came against Hope International back on February 22. Most recently, Marymount lost to Vanguard 5-0.
